Philosophy St. Joseph Central High School is college preparatory in nature and exists to provide a quality Catholic education. In order to accomplish this goal, opportunities are provided for the spiritual, intellectual, aesthetic, physical, and social development of the total person.
Located in downtown Pittsfield, the school was founded in 1897. The present structure opened in 1942. The adjacent building, housing the library and business, was purchased in 1965.
Staff The staff consists of thirty (30) lay faculty.

Accreditation New England Association of Schools and Colleges
Curriculum Each student is required to take six subjects every year, and Physical Education. In order to recieve credit for the course, students must obtain a passing grade. Courses in Mathematics and Science are offered according to ability levels (i.e., fundamental through Honors levels). Written student application and department approval are required for acceptance into Honors Pre-calculus, Organic Chemistry, Honors Biology, Biology 2, Physics, Anatomy & Physiology, Honors English 1-4, and Advanced Placement courses: Art History, English Literature and Composition, Chemistry, U.S. History, Calculus, and Computer Science. St. Joseph CHS is a member of the Virtual High School Global Consortium (goVHS.org).
Co-Curricular Seventy percent (70%) of the students participate in activities. There are fifteen Varsity sports under the rules of the Massachusetts Inter-Scholastic Athletic Association.

1st Honors – 90 average with nothing less than a B 2nd Honors – 85 average with nothing less than a C+
